EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | CAMP MANAGER

Shauna "Leopard" is a proud science and nature nerd who loves sharing her passion with campers. Living and working at camp with her family is a dream come true. Shauna spent over a decade as a teacher and believes outdoor school is the best! Shauna was born, raised, and went to college in the Portland area. She fell in love with Southern Oregon while living in Ashland and obtaining her MS in Environmental Education. Shauna also loves traveling, roller skating, thrift store shopping, watercolor painting, and kayaking.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | CAMP MANAGER

Joshua “Crawdaddy” has been attending camp since age six, met his wife Shauna at a camp, and even got married at camp. With a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Josh finds many ways to make camp an even more special place!

Fun fact: his original camp name was “Cheekey,” a blend of cheetah and monkey. If he could, he’d combine these animals to climb trees at 70 miles per hour! Joshua is thrilled to be part of the Camp Myrtlewood family.

Spencer “Fungi” is an energetic and curious 10-year-old who loves exploring the great outdoors. He's often found playing at Camp Myrtlewood, enjoying nature and learning about the environment. Spencer's adventurous spirit and love for animals make him a delightful presence at camp. Spencer also loves wrestling, dogs, pigs, making music, and building Legos.

KITCHEN MANAGER | DIRECTOR OF FUN

Reid “Scamp” has been coming to Camp Myrtlewood’s Family Camp since he was a young child. He began his employment as a summer staff helper and has been the Kitchen Manager since 2021. He grew up in Weed, CA and attended college at UC Davis where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science. Reid has a passion for food, including fermentation and baking. In his free time, Reid enjoys world travel, playing games, and exploring the local beaches.

KITCHEN MANAGER | GARDEN COORDINATOR

Tayra “Night Owl” began her employment at camp as a seasonal kitchen assistant in 2022 and became Kitchen Manager and Garden Coordinator in 2024. She was raised in Connecticut and as an adult moved to Trinity County, CA where she used her knowledge and love of gardening to work on various organic farms and community gardens. She particularly enjoys sharing her passion of growing food with children. Tayra loves being outdoors, cooking wholesome vegetarian meals, doing puzzles and spending time with her partner, David, and her two dogs.

SEASONAL KITCHEN AND FACILITIES SPECIALIST

Antonio “Chuy” began working at Camp with his brother, a LaVerne student volunteer, in the summer of 2021. Loving the teamwork and camp lifestyle, Antonio came back to camp every summer since. Although this year, he started in January and has assisted on a variety of camp improvement and construction projects.

Back in Southern California, he helped his parents with the family businesses including landscaping and cleaning.

During his free time, Antonio can be found playing guitar, exploring camp’s trails, climbing trees, and spending time with his camp family/friends.

FACILITIES MANAGER AND COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

The Kaiser family brings heart, creativity, and a love for community to Camp Myrtlewood. Jason aka “Old Skunky” (his camp name), wears many hats around camp whether it’s electrical work, construction on current projects, general outdoor maintenance, or his creative projects that enhance camp’s environment. In his downtime, Jason enjoys making music (he’s a drummer at heart) and spending time with his family.

Shara aka “Luna”, is a full-time mom with many talents and skill sets that support camp life. Her greatest expertise lies in early childhood education, where she and Jason previously worked together as play-based preschool teachers in Washington. It was during this time that they met Josh and Shauna, when their son Spencer was in Shara and Jason’s preschool class, a connection that later brought them to Camp Myrtlewood and its outdoor education programs.

Their daughter, Veda, is the youngest member of the Kaiser crew and brings her own spark of joy and curiosity to camp life. Veda’s camp name is “Critter” and it couldn’t be more fitting. 

Originally from California, the Kaisers have lived in all three West Coast states: California, Washington, and Oregon. Their favorite thing to do at Camp Myrtlewood is floating down the creek in kayaks together as a family.
