Mezdulene's Annual Belly Dance Retreat
For over 20 years, I've held my annual belly dance retreat at Camp Myrtlewood. We have dance classes out in the meadow and each night a dance show in the dining hall. Every year is unique and filled with dancing, feasting, and healing.
My retreat is for women only, and we've had some amazing experiences together. When we arrive, we feel the loving energy of the camp fostered by Margaret and John. Although I only see them once a year, I consider them dear friends.
The land the camp is on feels sacred, and some of us can feel the Native American spirits who visit there. We've heard them at night, and one year they attended a memorial we held for our dear friend. While we were remembering her, the harp started playing by itself. It was beautiful.
Many women have had healing experiences during my retreat. In fact, last year, one of my dancers announced if you have trouble getting pregnant just come to Mezdulene's retreat. Several women suffering from fertility problems have given birth after spending time with me at Camp Myrtlewood, and this dancer in particular had brought her new baby to meet everyone. Other healings also occur around abuse issues and depression.
My retreat seems to fill each woman's needs. Some just come to dance and have fun while others come with that intent and end up experiencing so much more. In 2001, my camp was three days after the twin towers went down. We couldn't be there in person, but as a group we sent our prayers and healing to the families and friends of the victims and the terrorists. It brought many of us solace to be able to do something in an energetic way. In 2011, the 10th anniversary happened during my retreat and this year, I led prayers at the chapel.
Each year at Camp Myrtlewood is a blessing.
Thank you John and Margaret.
